Clara Buie

As director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Clara Buie focuses on inclusive excellence to support the university community and promote the value of multiple perspectives. Buie uses an intersectional approach, which considers accessibility, social economic status, sexual orientation and race, to create a sense of belonging for everyone.

Buie partners closely with several university partners, such as the Office of Multicultural Affairs, to ensure that faculty and staff have the resources they need to help their students succeed. During Hispanic Heritage Month, Buie celebrates as a community leader and as an Afro-Latina from the Dominican Republic. “The month allows us to highlight the strength and resilience of our community,” Buie said. “And we will continue to do that throughout the year as we focus on our other communities and heritage celebrations.”
