Jane Smart, PhD, CCC-SLP joined the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders as an adjunct instructor in 2017, and as a full-time instructor in 2018. Dr. Smart’s research interests include speech perception, pediatric aural and language habilitation, phonology, vocabulary acquisition, and Cued Speech. Her pedagogical focus is integrating experiential and interactive opportunities with course content to foster student learning and engagement, and to prepare future clinicians to support the communication needs with diverse client populations. Dr. Smart’s clinical experience includes working with children in early intervention, private practice, and school-based environments. She has provided mentorship and supervision for Speech-Language Pathology graduate students, and currently mentors undergraduate students who support USF’s International Teaching Assistants. Dr. Smart is a certified beginning instructor of Cued Speech. She teaches workshops and participates in cueing-related community outreach through her work with USF’s Cued Speech Initiative.
