Undergraduate Research Certificate

The CBCS Undergraduate Research Certificate provides students with a planned sequence of courses to support their systematic development as undergraduate researchers and prepare them for graduate school. The Undergraduate Research Certificate is a cross-departmental initiative within the College of Behavioral & Community Sciences.

Required Courses

The following courses are required for completion of the certificate. Many of these courses will also count toward completion of your general education requirements or your major. Certificate Requirements are 13-15 credit hours.

  • IDS 1505 Introduction to Research in Behavioral & Community Sciences (2 hours)
  • IDS 2600 Applications of Research in Community Settings (1 hour)
  • STA 2122 Social Science Statistics or equivalent (3 hours)
  • Research Methods in your major or equivalent (3 hours)
  • MHS 4741 Applied Research Methods (3 hours) or MHS 4731 Writing for Research and Publication (3 hours)
  • Directed Research or Thesis in your major (1-3 hours)

Online form to declare your intent to pursue the Undergraduate Research Certificate.

Completion and Award of Certificate

When students have completed all courses required for the certificate, they should complete the Undergraduate Research Application form and the Undergraduate Research Worksheet and submit them to Lisa Landis, Director of Student Academic Support Services.
