Skills Employers Seek
A variety of recent studies reveal that American employers seek the very same skills that our Sociology and ISS degrees foster. These include: creativity, innovation, social skills, excellent oral and written communication, listening, collaboration, critical and analytical thinking, problem solving, strong math and science skills, and multi-cultural and global understandings. Two studies that reveal this are:
- The Association of American Colleges and Universities' 2013 survey "It Takes More Than a Major: Employer Priorities for College Learning and Student Success."
- The National Bureau of Economic Research's 2017 study "The Growing Importance of Social Skills in the Labor Market (NBER Working Paper No. 21473).
