Minor and Certificate in Art History
The minor and the undergraduate certificate in art history are two study options for students who want to expand an outside discipline with an education in Art History.
Minor in Art History
The minor in art history consists of 15 credit hours. Students pursuing this minor may study art history from a variety of areas, including but not limited to Greek Art, Roman Art, Ancient Egyptian and Near Eastern Art, Renaissance Art, African Art, Chinese Art, and Twentieth Century Art. As a writing discipline, the Minor in Art History develops the student’s critical analysis and communication skills.

Additional Minor requirements
GPA Requirements
A cumulative GPA of 2.5 in the certificate coursework is required.
Grading Requirements
Students must earn a “C” or better in their minor coursework.
Other Requirements
Studio Art majors (BA/BFA) and Graphic Arts majors may apply Art History courses required for their program toward an Art History minor. Per University guidelines, these students “must complete a minimum of 6 credits and two courses exclusive to the minor that will not count toward the student’s major or other minors. These credits/courses must be completed at USF and must be upper level courses.” Interested students in these programs should consult with their advisor to clarify expectations before declaring an Art History minor.

Undergraduate Certificate in Art History
The Certificate in Art History is designed for undergraduate students majoring in another field who also seek a concentration in art history. This certificate constitutes a sequence of five art history courses (15 credit hours) that provides students with a broad introduction to the field of art history.

Complete the Certificate in Art History form to enroll. You will receive a confirmation of your enrollment in the certification program.

How do I receive the certificate?
Once you have completed the required courses and applied for graduation, you MUST
notify Tracy Mack at the School of Art & Art History Main Office, FAH 231, (813)-
974-1748, mackt295@usf.edu to approve completion of your certificate in order for it to be included on your
permanent USF transcript.

GPA Requirements
A cumulative GPA of 2.5 in the certificate coursework is required.
Course Grade Requirement
Courses must be taken on a letter-grade basis. The minimum acceptable grade for each course for the certificate is a C.
A minimum of 12 semester hours of credit used to satisfy the requirements of a certificate must be from USF courses; at least 50 percent of the required coursework must be earned from the institution awarding the certificate.
