Audition Info for Performance Classes and Productions

Students seeking admission into the Theatre program do not need to audition; however students in the Theatre Performance concentration will need to audition for the upper level acting sequence.

SoTaD Fall 2022 Acting Studio Auditions

The performance faculty will hold in-person auditions on Sunday, August 21, 2022, for all upper-level acting courses, (except Acting the Song auditions, which will have video submissions, see below for details)

When: Sunday, August 21, 2022

Time: 10:00 am -1:00 pm. (Mandatory Group Warm-up at 10:00 am)

ACTING II (TPP 3155 CRN 84151) Prof. Douglas Hall (douglashall@usf.edu)  MWF 1:30 - 3:15pm TAR 130
Pre-requisites:  Acting I; USF Theatre core courses OR equivalent credits; Script Analysis, your audition. 
Course Description: The training includes defining/exploring Goals/ Needs, Actions/Tactics, Expectation, and Stakes. Students learn how to collaborate, to examine a scene, and rehearse consciously. The first character you explore is ‘you’. It requires honesty, boldness, trust, imagination, and time. The focus in the work is listening, responding, and investing in your scene partner. 

AUDITION REQUIREMENT: One monologue from published play (1950-present), should not exceed one-minute

ACTING III (TPP 4180 CRN 84154) Prof. Dora Arreola (darreola@usf.edu) MWF 1:30 - 3:15pm TAR 120
Pre-requisites:  Acting II OR equivalent credit; your audition 
Course Description: The training focuses on physical actions methodologies in which students will strengthen acting tools, improvisation practices, scene, and character analysis. Course objective is to develop the ability to perform a complex, multi-layered character. The process requires discipline, commitment, and vulnerability. 

AUDITION REQUIREMENT: Two monologues that contrast in material, character, and/or style, - from a published play, should not exceed one-minute each

Senior Workshop for Actors: Performance Ensemble Studio (TPP 4920 CRN 84156) Prof. Fanni Green (fgreen@usf.edu) TR 9:30am -11:15pm TAR 130 
Pre-requisites Acting III 
Course Description: This class develops the student’s ability to work and perform as part of an acting ensemble.  Its focus is to create theatre as an ensemble collective, engaged in exploring collaborative art. 

AUDITION REQUIREMENT: Two monologues that contrast in material, character, and/or style, - from a published play, any time period or genre, should not exceed one-minute each (memorized, prepared to work as an ensemble with your monologues)

Co-requisite (recommended) THE 4930 Selected Topics In Theatre Voice Lesson- Musical Theatre Workshop (THE 4930 St Pete CRN 88405; Tampa CRN 86478)
Pre-requisites:  Acting I TPP 2110 or by audition and permission of the instructor. 
Course Description:  This course will enable the student to approach music and lyrics from the actor’s point of view. Lyrics are explored as monologues and music is explored as a way to support the emotional life of the character.  

Students in the class are encouraged to also take the one-credit class of private voice lessons (THE 4930)

VIDEO AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Submissions Open August 15 - Close August 19 
  • 2 contrasting songs with a combined total time of less than 4 minutes
  • Record in good light, with good sound, and in a space where you can move freely.  
  • You can sing to recorded tracks (many available on YouTube) or a cappella.  
  • Slate - Introduce yourself and name your pieces  
  • Submit Video using link in Registration Form - File name format: last name, first name
