Project ISED

Project iSED: Advancing Interdisciplinary Services for Students with Severe Emotional and Behavioral Disorders

All students accepted in the ABA Master’s Program are eligible to apply to participate in Project iSED, a 5-year, $1.19 million grant funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs (H325K200051). Project iSED aims to prepare 34 high-quality scholars to serve as either Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) or School Social Workers who can collaboratively design and deliver evidence-based instruction and intensive individualized interventions and supports for school-aged children with severe emotional and behavioral disorders in schools.

Project iSED Goals:

  • Collaboratively design and deliver evidence-based instruction and intensive individualized interventions and supports (PBIS) in natural environments, classrooms, and schools for school aged children with severe emotional and behavioral disorders.
  • Employ evidence-based practices and evaluation, foster family engagement and access to mental health counseling, and serve as home-school liaison.

Over the 5 years of funding (2020-2025), Project iSED will prepare 17 scholars from the ABA Master’s Program and 17 scholars from the School Social Work Program within the College of Behavioral and Community Sciences. To identify high-quality applicants for admission, the project will select candidates whose interests match the project’s goals. Interest in becoming a school-based behavior analyst or school social worker and willingness to provide related services as a collaborative team member for children with disabilities in educational systems will be emphasized in the selection process.

Scholarship Support

Project iSED students will receive:

  • Paid tuition (in-state rate) for 3 semesters (Summer, Fall, and Spring of 2nd year in the ABA program)
  • Out-of-state tuition waiver for non-Florida residents
  • Stipends for 3 semesters (Summer, Fall, and Spring of 2nd year in the ABA program)
  • Financial assistance for conference attendance

Program Requirements

Program iSED requires 51 credit hours (45 credits in ABA and 6 credits in Positive Behavior Support; 3 credits in Social Work [replacement of an elective course in ABA]) for ABA Master’s Program scholars. Beyond the master’s degree in ABA, the Project iSED program students will be prepared to graduate with a Graduate Certificate in Positive Behavior Support, and to sit for the examination to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Features of the project include:

  • Graduate Certificate Program in Positive Behavior Support
  • Coordinated and supervised practicum
  • Monthly seminars
  • Summer Institute
  • Florida Center for Inclusive Communities Trainee Program
  • Case studies or thesis research in high-need schools
  • Portfolio development
  • Conference participation

Upon exiting the program, all students receiving scholarships through this project are required to maintain eligible employment on a full-time or full-time equivalent
basis and provide related services to children with disabilities in the school system for a period of two years for every one academic year for which assistance is received. For more information about the programs service obligation component,

How to Apply

All students accepted in the ABA Master’s Program are eligible to apply to participate in Project iSED. The ABA Master’s Program will distribute a Project iSED application form to each student during the first week of classes. Interested applicants should submit the completed application form, a letter of intent, and a curriculum vita to Dr. Catia Cividini-Motta.
