IRS Data Retrieval Tool

The IRS Data Retrieval Tool (IRS DRT) allows you to transfer your income data directly into the FAFSA from the IRS. Use of the IRS DRT speeds up the processing of your FAFSA.

If you are selected for verification for the 2022-2023 FAFSA, you must use the IRS DRT to retrieve the 2020 tax data for you and your parents, if a dependent student.

If you are selected for verification for the 2023-2024 FAFSA, you must use the IRS DRT to retrieve the 2021 tax data for you and your parents, if a dependent student.

If you are unable to use the DRT and are required to submit tax return transcripts, you may request them online through the IRS 'Get Transcript' option. Instructions for requesting a copy of tax transcripts can be found here.
