Life Skills for Student Success

Information for Families

If you are the family or guardian of an incoming student, your student will be required to complete the Life Skills for Student Success tutorial. To get your student off to a positive start, we want her/him to be prepared for success at USF. Three areas that may present challenges revolve around managing money, alcohol, and safety. Thus, we created Life Skills for Student Success, our three-module, online educational program, to help your student take a closer look at these issues in college.

All incoming students are expected to complete each module with a score of 80% or higher by midnight on the deadline date, with the exception of Sexual Assault Prevention which is not scored and simply must be completed.

Transfer students are not required to take Financial Literacy 101.

Completion of all modules will take approximately four to five hours; thus, we strongly encourage your student to not delay in fulfilling this requirement. We believe that the information presented through this online educational program to be helpful in their transition to and success at USF.

About the Modules of Life Skills for Student Success
AlcoholEdu for College was the nation's first online alcohol prevention program and today is used at more than 500 colleges and high schools nationwide. AlcoholEdu for College is an online alcohol prevention program designed for population-level, primary prevention. Its personalized approach provides an experience that impacts both individual behavior and campus culture.

Sexual Assault Prevention is designed to educate your student on topics of sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking awareness. The U.S. federal government mandates that all new students take this training to understand the State of Florida definitions of these crimes and learn bystander intervention and risk reduction techniques.

Financial Literacy 101 is an online financial literacy course designed for the specific educational needs of those seeking higher education. The goal of the Financial Literacy 101 module is to help prepare students for the financial challenges they face as young adults, including content that is appropriate for non-traditional and older students. The course is designed primarily as a harm reduction tool to help students avoid the financial and academic harm that too often results from financial mismanagement during both full and part-time college attendance.
