Academic Advocacy
Progression Concerns
Each fall and spring semester the Office of Academic Advocacy (OAA) reviews all undergraduate students to identify those students still in good standing, but who earn a semester GPA below 2.0 more than once in the past three semesters (fall, spring, summer or spring, summer, fall). The purpose is early detection of progression issues. Emails are sent to students to encourage them to meet with their academic advisor or an academic advocate to discuss progress, planning, potential for ARC petition, and implications for excess hours.
These reports are shared with the colleges for distribution to appropriate advising units. OAA encourages collaboration and assistance in resolution of barriers for specific students.
Each summer OAA runs a report to determine which of the first year students have not yet registered for fall courses. These reports are shared with colleges for distribution to appropriate advising units and emails are sent to students to encourage their registration. OAA collaborates directly with advisors to resolve student issues or remove barriers to registration.
